Shepherds Pie Recipe

Here is the shepherds pie recipe that some of you have requested.

Shepherds Pie

1kg beef mince

30gm butter

1 large onion (chopped)

1 large carrot (grated)

1/2 teaspoon thyme

1 tablespoon tomato paste

2 teaspoons worcestershire sauce

2 teaspoons soy sauce

1 beef stock cube (I actually use 2)

Salt and pepper

1 ½ cups water

2 tablespoons flour

1/4 cup water extra


750gm potatoes

60gm butter

1/4 cup milk

1 egg

Melt butter in saucepan, add mince, onion, carrot, cook until meat is browned. Put 1 ½ cups of hot water in a jug and add thyme, tomato paste, worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, stock cube and stir. Add this to the saucepan and season with salt and pepper. Bring to the boil then simmer for 20 minutes. Remove saucepan from heat and stir in combined flour and extra water. Return to the heat and simmer for 2 minutes. Spoon into oven proof dish. Boil potatoes until tender, drain, mash with butter and milk. Spread over meat and brush with a lightly beaten egg.

Bake at 180 degrees for 45 minutes or until heated through and potato is golden.
