Making Our Mornings Easier Tip No #2

If you missed my last tip on kids pj's you can see it here.

My boys take forever to eat their breakfast, by the time they are finished its a mad rush to get clothes on and get out the door. The boys have to get dressed now before we have breakfast. Even if it takes 30 minutes for them to eat breakfast it doesn't matter as they are dressed and ready to go. I give them extra incentive to eat breakfast quicker by saying if you eat quick, you will have time to play or watch tv before we have to go.

After they have finished their breakfast they take their bowls and any other dishes they have used to the bench.

This bench is just above our dishwasher.

We have been doing this for over 6 months now and it is really working for us and making my life a little easier.

Shepherds Pie Recipe

Here is the shepherds pie recipe that some of you have requested.

Shepherds Pie

1kg beef mince

30gm butter

1 large onion (chopped)

1 large carrot (grated)

1/2 teaspoon thyme

1 tablespoon tomato paste

2 teaspoons worcestershire sauce

2 teaspoons soy sauce

1 beef stock cube (I actually use 2)

Salt and pepper

1 ½ cups water

2 tablespoons flour

1/4 cup water extra

Topping

750gm potatoes

60gm butter

1/4 cup milk

1 egg

Melt butter in saucepan, add mince, onion, carrot, cook until meat is browned. Put 1 ½ cups of hot water in a jug and add thyme, tomato paste, worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, stock cube and stir. Add this to the saucepan and season with salt and pepper. Bring to the boil then simmer for 20 minutes. Remove saucepan from heat and stir in combined flour and extra water. Return to the heat and simmer for 2 minutes. Spoon into oven proof dish. Boil potatoes until tender, drain, mash with butter and milk. Spread over meat and brush with a lightly beaten egg.

Bake at 180 degrees for 45 minutes or until heated through and potato is golden.

Saucepan Lid Organisation

Shirley from Motivated Mommy of 2 did a post on saucepan lid organisation. She used this. I just had to go to IKEA so I could do it as well. Any excuse to go to IKEA I say. Click here to see Shirley's post.

Here is our pot drawers before

The lids were stored in a plastic container

And here is the saucepan drawer now

Now

Doesn't that look better. It makes it so much easier when needing to find a particular pot lid or putting them away.  I am loving it. Thanks Shirley

Cobys 2nd Birthday Cake

Just before Coby's 2nd Birthday we still hadn't organised a cake.....I know very unlike me. Kat from The Organised Housewife posted about a no bake cake. You can see the post here. We decided to go for a chocolate mud cake with milk chocolate kit kats and smarties. Coby wanted a bang bang (hammer) cake so I put the cake together and put a toy hammer on top. He thought his cake was great.

Thanks again Kat we were running out of time to make the cake and you saved the day.

New Magazine Storage for Bathroom/Toilet

My hubby loves reading while he is on the toilet, I guess alot of hubby's/partners out there do. I had a magazine basket next to the toilet that had seen better days. It wasn't supporting the magazines at all. On one of my recent IKEA trips I bought 2 spice racks. I am sure most of you have seen these used in playrooms as book storage and on the inside of cupboard doors. I thought how about using it as magazine holder in the toilet area.

I even got to assemble it in hubby's man cave (aka garage).

Stained and waiting for it to dry

My wonderful hubby put it up for me when he got home from work. He wanted to put it where a stud was in the wall. This would make it more stable and be able to take more weight. It turned out great as you don't notice the magazine rack until you are in the toilet.

So here is the finished product.

You could use it to store your feminine products, air freshener, kids flushable wipes.

Car Organisation

Today I want to share with you how I organise our car. After seeing a blog post about car organisation and kit from Kaz at Living on a latte. I thought some areas of our car could be organised better. Thanks for the inspiration and the ideas Kaz.

So here is the storage I have been using in the back of the car. It's a collapsible boot organiser.

It holds

Picnic blanket
Towel (great for when you go to the park and the swings or slides are wet)
Cloth nappy for spills etc
Nappy Satchel - spare nappies and wipes
Reusable shopping bags
Balls - These are our park balls the kids love kicking them around
Pram accessories e.g. saddle bags, drinks holder

Here it is in the back of the car

Our glove box had no real organisation. I loved how Kaz had the little tupperware containers. I had a unused little huggies wipe box that I thought would be perfect. Sometimes I don't have my handbag with me and it those times I wish I did. For example lip balm.

Here is the unused wipes container

Emergency supplies in wipes container

Pens - you can never have enough pens
Nurofen
Lip Balm
Feminine Products
Hand Sanitiser
Moisturiser - For those times you forget to moisturise your legs....my legs always look dry if I don't.

Here is what I keep in our centre console

Notebook - So now I can write something down without having to scrounge around for a bit of paper
Wipes - Kids always need their hands and wipes after eating
DVD's
Tissues
My emergency kit

Here is the glove box

In here I keep rubbish bags. We don't have a bin as such we actually use the side compartments of our doors only for the dry rubbish the other rubbish we put in the bin when we get home. If only I could find a container to fit in those side compartments. I also keep car documents, body spray and more hand sanitiser (I think I have a problem with that stuff).

On the back of the front car seats we have organisers for the kids. I don't keep anything in them all the time. They are really used for their water bottles and if they bring toys in the car.
