5th Party Birthday Invites

Our oldest son is turning 5....he is growing up way too quick. I asked him what he wanted his theme to be and his answer was Transformers. So I enlisted the help of Ally from minidiva for the birthday invitations. If you haven't checked out her page go and do it. I only wished that I had a daughter so I could book a party.

So here is the invites that Ally made for Brodie. Don't they look cool. Brodie was very excited and I have loads of mums comment on the invites. The address is made up to protect our privacy. I know I could have blurred it but you wouldn't have seen how fantastic the invite is. So now it's time to plan the rest of the party, guests, lollies, cake, food, decorations & party games...Pinterest & google here I come.

Transformer Invitations

So I am busy organising for his party. He will be having a lolly table at his party. I did a lolly table for our youngest sons 1st Birthday. I have posted some photos below.

I loved the labels...It took me forever to get the original labels off. I am doing the
same for Brodie's party but will be using the transformer logo and the kids names

My Little Home Command Centre

I hate having invites, notices hanging on the fridge call me a freak...but it really erks me. I don't mind having some photos on the fridge but I really like it clutter free. Our oldest son is starting school next year and our middle son will be starting kinder next year as well. I really needed somewhere else to put all the invites, notices etc . I decided that I could make my own little home command centre. When I first started blogging I posted about Organising our entry. You will see from this post that I created my own little dumping ground for keys, bags, sunglasses etc. So I looked at this dumping area and decided I could use the vertical space for my command centre.

I found a nice corkboard with a nice dark brown border and also a green magnetic dry erase board. Green and brown are the colours in our kitchen/living area. I already use of these dry erase magnetic boards in the kitchen I will posting soon on how I use these boards in the kitchen.

So I pin all the invites, kinder notices, vouchers to be used on the corkboard. I use the dry erase magnetic board for little reminders like remember Brodies dentist form for Kinder. I stick my wire magnetic basket on magnetic board to hold my pens. I know....how many pens do I need??....you know I'm a little anal so everyone has their own colour on the calender.

Do you have a home command centre? If you do comment below and leave your link so you can share it with others.

Howards Storage World Giveaway Reminder

HOWARDS STORAGE WORLD GIVEAWAY

2 X 100 litre Compactor Compressible Trunks
valued at $36.95 each

HSW Catalogue Page 48

I am very excited to announce I am hosting my first sponsored giveaway. If you have been following my blog you will know that I love Howards Storage World. I have used quite a few of their products and one of my favourites is the Compactor Compressible Trunk. I'm sure most of you have used the vacuum storage bags but the compactor trunks are a 1000 times better. Did you find that yours would come apart? or storing them when filled was awkward as it wasn't flat so you couldn't store items on top..well none of that with these babies. The storage bag itself is attached to the trunk what a fantastic idea!! And even if the bag did open it won't matter as the trunk has clips which will keep it closed if that happens.

Here is some photos from my blog post "Organising our Walk In Robe" where I have used the Compactor Compressible Trunks.

Compactor Compressible Trunk

All loaded ready to suck out the air

The air sucked out ready to put the lid on

All done..now how much better does that look.and it even has a pocket
for a label....you know my love for labels.

Keeping It Real #1 Playroom

I wanted to start a new little series on keeping it real. Although I have organised most of the spaces in our home this doesn't mean that they don't get messy. So I wanted to share with you what some of these spaces do look like sometimes (well probably most of the time). As most of you know a house with young kids is almost impossible to keep neat and tidy. I can tidy up at the end of the day but by the next day it can be like a cyclone has gone through. When I had my first son I had really high expectations of myself and our house. I wanted my house to be neat and tidy all the time. I quickly realised that this wasn't going to happen. I had to learn to let go, seriously kids grow up so quick my oldest son starts school next year. My advice is enjoy the time when your kids are at home it is such a precious time and accept the fact the house on most days will look like a bomb has hit it. The mess will be there the next day.I don't want my kids to remember Mum was always too busy to play because she was always cleaning and tidying up. I also wanted to write this for other mums out there that say how does she do this? Is it like this all the time? Some of the organising blogs out there including mine give the readers a unrealistic perception that you can have young kids at home and your home looks like a display home all the time. I write my blog for me (it has become my little outlet) and for my readers.

So here is our playroom on a normal day

Kids Craft Storage

I decided that the kids craft storage could do with some decluttering and reorganising. My older 2 boys are loving craft and I was opening up lots of tubs before I would find what I was looking for. This trofast unit is in the playroom wardrobe. I used to use these trofast units as toy storage in the playroom but I found that it didn't have enough storage. If you haven't seen my post on playroom organisation click here

I love labelled containers!

Paper
I store A4 coloured paper in a A4 display folders

I have divided up the tub with some smaller
containers. I wanted to separate the textas
from the crayons. I know it won't last like that
once the boys get in to it

Textas & Crayons

Again some smaller containers to separate the items
to make them easier to find

Scissors, glue & glitter

I had grand plans to scrapbook about 5 years ago
as you can see I obviously didn't do it hence why
the kids have inherited all my scrapbook paper. I have
1 scrapbook for each of the boys I find it saves paper
going everywhere and also it can become a keepsake

Scrapbook paper, Scrapbooks &
Misc

I used to have the playdoh and tools in
separate tubs but I condensed them
to one tub to gain more storage

Playdoh & Playdoh Tools

Craft e.g. googly eyes, cut up paper
for pasting and the life saving messy
mat to put on our table or bench
when the kids are doing craft

Craft & Messy Mat

Another little container to separate
the brushes from the paint

Paints & Paint Brushes

I also keep the crayola paper and color wonder textas
in here. I just found it was easier to keep these separate
from the normal textas

Sticker books & Stickers

This craft container just sits on top of the trofast as
it was just too big to fit in a tub. I also store the A3 paper
underneath this craft container.

This is how I display the kids artwork

How do you organise your kids craft?

Linen Cupboard

Today I wanted to show you my linen cupboard. I recently went through all the towels and bed linen and purged alot of stuff......I have a thing for linen lol. My husband made a rule that if I buy a new quilt cover or a set of towels its one in one out. I'm happy with that rule and if I keep to it I should never have to make more room for linen.

Add caption

1st Shelf - our towels

2nd Shelf - bathmats, hand towels and
face washers

3rd shelf - guest linen

Top shelf - beach towels

2nd shelf - our quilt covers

3rd shelf - our quilt covers and guest bed linen

4th shelf - flat sheets and flannelette quilt cover

Bottom shelf - spare pillow and the best vacuum storage bag out there

The vacuum storage box actually has the bag attached to it and once you have compressed the items you put the lid on then do up the straps. All the previous storage bags I have used would all end up opening and you could never store items on top as they were never flat. This allows you to store items on the top and even if the bag does open it doesn't matter as the clips keep it contained. I bought the storage compactor bag from here. If you want to see how much stuff you can fit in here see this post
After seeing the way Martha Stewart puts all her sheets in a pillowcase I thought I would try it. Mine don't look anywhere as neat as hers! I love how now I just picked the quilt cover I want and everything I need is there it saves so much time.
