Kitchen Cupboards & Drawers Part 3

I can't believe we are already up to week 3 in OrgJunkies 29 Day Challenge It has been so motivating to see everyones progress it keeps you going.

The next job on the list was the pantry...It is pretty organised but I really just wanted to go through all of it and check expiry dates and boy was I mortified about one of them. Obviously I have not gone through my spices for quite some time. This chicken seasoning was from my husbands bachelor days.

OMG I am so embarrassed the only good thing I
have never used it
After going through all the spices I used my dymo labeller and labelled all the spices which will make it alot easier to find the one that I need.

When going through the pantry I thought there will be some expired food but not this much.

Expired Foods - What a waste!

Pantry before
Pantry After
Top shelf - my double ups on regularly used items. I hate running out of items.
2nd Shelf -  baking goods & chips.
3rd shelf - spices, mexican, side dishes and cup of soups.
4th Shelf - cereals, pasta and cofee beans
5th Shelf - canned goods, my youngest food & sauces, oils etc

Before

This drawer is below the pantry it holds the dry ingredients e.g. sugar and biscuits

After

Before

This drawer holds condiments, canned tuna and a mixture of foods

We have a appliance cupboard. I love how I can put the toaser, kettle, microwave and coffee machine in there as it doesn't take up bench space. I was unhappy that the top shelf looked like a mess. I know I could just shut the doors but that wasn't solving the issue. With all the purging I had done I was able to relocate these items and put my cook books here.

Before

After - That is much nicer to look at now
The basket now holds our bread

  1. Your pantry looks AWESOME! I love all of your containers and labels! I hate it when we let food expire-- it's hard to throw it out that much waste. Keep up the good work!

  5. I'm totally stealing the spice thing. I intalled a little shelf for mine eons ago and they are all there, but I have to move every one to find them. A basket with labels on top is genius!

  11. For help with the expired food I recommend an "ON NOTICE" basket, or what we call a "EAT THIS NOW!" basket. One for the fridge and one for the pantry. Now that you've organized your pantry you have a good feel for what's been in there a while and what might be soon to expire. When (or before) you do your grocery shopping, simply move items that need to be eaten in the next week for pantry items or couple of days for fridge items.
Your pantry looks great though. I'm jealous.
