Christmas Treats - Santa Hats & Tiny Teddy on a Sleigh

Brodie has his last day at kinder this week and I wanted to make some cute christmas food for the kinder party. I wanted something that wasn't too complicated.

So I decided to make Santa Hats and Teddy Bears riding sleighs. I made a small batch to see how they turned out. I used mini mars bars but for the kinder party I will use milky ways.

Santa Hats

White Chocolate Bits
Desiccated Coconut

Using a knife, cut the leafy end of the strawberry off to create a flat and even bottom.
Melt chocolate using microwave or double boiler method. If you find the chocolate is still a bit thick put a tiny dash of oil and mix. (this will make the chocolate more runny)
Dip the flat end of the strawberry into the white chocolate (approx 0.5cm). Let any excess chocolate drip off into the bowl.
Carefully roll the choc dipped strawberry into the coconut to create the fluffy trim of Santa's hat, then dip the other end of the strawberry in the chocolate to create a pom pom effect.
Place onto a tray lined with baking paper and store in fridge.

Tiny Teddies riding a sleigh

Mini Milky Way Bars
Mini Candy Canes
Tiny Teddies Biscuits
Milk Chocolate Bits

Melt chocolate using microwave or double boiler method.
Gently press a Tiny Teddy into the Milky Way Bar. I find holding the sides of the bar, prevents the bar from squeezing out.
Using a knife, place chocolate evenly on the base of the Milky Way Bar and then press candy canes lightly onto the melted chocolate, so that they stick to the bottom.
Place onto a lined baking tray and put in fridge.

Reindeer Food - Free Printable

Brodie asked if I could make reindeer food to give as a gift to his friends at kinder. I did this last year and it was a huge hit with the kids. I re-designed the label this year. If you want to download the printable click here.

So off to Safeway we go and here is what we came home with (not the glitter already had that ;).

I know alot of people just use the rolled oats but I like to mix things up a bit. I ended up using 1 1/2 bags of rolled oats, 1/2 a bag of the processed bran, 1/2 bag of oat bran, and about a 1/4 cup of each glitter colour.

I then set up the boys a bowl of the reindeer food each, spoon and bags, then I let them go for it. They had a great time making up the bags and making a mess.

And here is the finished product. If you want to download this printable click here. The labels are made to fit the hercules snack size bags.

Our Christmas Tree ~ Updated

I have decided that my next couple of posts will about Christmas since it is now December. We put our Christmas tree up last weekend and it was really nice to be able to put pressies under there. The boys keep asking for one of those trains that go around the tree, and as much as I would like one I just know that the boys wouldn't be able to keep there hands off it. Maybe we might get one in a couple of years.

I have been playing around with my camera and researching online on 'How to take a photo of a Christmas tree'.  There is still so much to learn on my camera. I would love to get a photo of our boys in front of the tree before Christmas.

A big thank you to the Ally and Felicity for helping me with the settings on my camera.

Here is the before photo when I was playing with the settings on  my camera (I didn't know much)

And here is the after with some help from some camera buffs :)

Tips on reducing your grocery bill

It was great to read all of your comments on Facebook on how you reduce your grocery bill.

I thought it would be a great idea to put the tips altogether in one place and share with you all.

And here are all the fantastic tips.

Always shop in your own pantry and freezer first

I plan my menu based on what is on special at the supermarkets

I bake once a week and try to make most things for the kids lunch boxes as healthy and frugal as possible

Only eat fruit and veg when they are in season.

Stock pile items that will keep and that I know I will use, buy them when they are on special which ultimately saves money.

Shop at Aldi

Make everything fom scratch

Buy meat in bulk when on sale and meal plan from your freezer

When I sat down to do the meal plan for last week I implemented one of the above ideas

Always shop in your own pantry and freezer first

If you would like to download my menu planner you can do that here.

If you have any other tips please I would love you to share them below in the comments. I will keep updating the tips from the comments so all the tips are in the one section.

Tupperware Drawer Organisation

Our 2 year old thinks the tupperware drawers are wonderful to play with, and when its not summer here we don't use as many tupperware containers. During summer we cut up lots of fruit. So we have extra containers in the drawers which means some reorganisation is needed.

So here are the before photos

And here are the after photos

I know these drawers will only look like this for a couple of days but I will enjoy them while it lasts.

Making Our Mornings Easier Tip No #3

If you missed my previous posts on making mornings easier you can see them here and here.

If you can do something the night before.....DO IT!

I try and do the below on every weeknight.

  • Make lunches or snacks for the next day for kinder
  • Get the kids clothes out for the next day
  • Get out any kinder forms that need to be returned
  • Get out library bag for kinder
  • Pack their bags if they are spending the day at the grandparents house

Most of the tips I have mentioned in this little series are not huge time savers by themselves but when you add them all up 1 minute here, 3 minutes here, it does makes a huge difference to those early morning starts.

Rubbermaid Lunchblox Giveaway - Fairdinks

The winners are Becci Sundberg & Kathryn Dunn

For those who follow my facebook page you would know a little while ago I posted, I had found the perfect lunch box for the boys. It's the Rubbermaid Lunchblox. I was purchased the 10 piece set from fairdinks.

Here is what you get with the 10 piece set.

The containers are modular and click together, you can turn them upside down and they won't fall off, and the blue ice blocks also click in place so the items can be kept cold. You can see a you tube video of how the lunchblox works here.

I packed this for Brodie when we went to the Royal Melbourne Show. I used the entree set, side container and 2 snack containers.

I am such a huge fan of the lunchblox, I just couldn't resist contacting Arron from Fairdinks to discuss a potential giveaway. Arron has decided that he will donate 2 x Rubbermaid Lunchblox 10 piece sets for a giveaway......Thanks Arron.

So here is a little info about Fairdinks.

When Fairdinks heard that a big American retailer was coming to Melbourne they said "about time"!

People with businesses and families, love competitive prices on great quality imported and local products.
Fairdinks recognized a gap in the market and launched an online option and delivery service for you.
You can get your favourite quality products from Costco delivered to your door for $15 - this does not include crazy car park excursions. also supports multiple charities including:
